Difference between Weld Overlay and Cladding.

The cladding welding process is applying a different, tougher material to the base metal. Weld Overlay you apply wear-resistant materials with similar properties onto the existing component.

Weld Cladding is a cost-effective way to enhance a material's surface properties.  The weld cladding process saves on materials needed for the base layer composition.

Weld cladding is typically between 2 and about 20 mm thick.

It is applied using a variety of welding processes. These include:

Weld overlay is a type of cladding, but the added material differs.

The base material is enhanced by overlay welding alloys/metals with related attributes.
