IMBA Round 1 Ladies European Championship
Vicky Marriott, Leicester motocross girl gives us a detailed account of her weekend racing in the Netherlands riding her Yamaha bike
MotoX Race – Emmen, Holland 22nd and 23rd April 2017
Championship season has started at last with a trip to Emmen in Holland for the first round of the IMBA Ladies MX Championship. Vicky was keen to get out riding again. She has produced a summary of the weekend.
“Saturday Practice Day
We were allowed to practice on Saturday to get used to the track. Although I am not a good sand rider I was enjoying riding the track, especially the jumps, but underestimated how tough this track was to ride.
Sunday Practice and Race Day
We had two practice sessions on Race Day. The first free practice and then qualifying. On the Saturday I had pulled the muscle in my previously damaged arm and didn’t realise that I had torn it again muscling my bike around the deep sand in first practice on Sunday and from then on struggled.
In race 1 I had a bad start but chased and took a few riders but suffered loss of feeling in my hand. I went to the medical centre after the race and the Doctor diagnosed that the swelling from my damaged bicep muscle was pressing on my nerves and stopping me from gripping properly.
I could have packed up and gone home, but decided to ride the last two races to just gain points. These points could be important for my overall championship position and for team Great Britain.
So not the best result or the best of races but points in the bag. I went to the hospital on Monday and had some treatment to relieve the pressure”
Sand racing is tough for both the rider and bike. Well done Vicky, you never give up do you? Hopefully resting this week you will be strapped up and free from pain for the 2nd round in Genk, Belgium this weekend. Keep us all posted.
