We take a look at the calibration process and why you could be risking your hard earned reputation by not renewing certificates.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calibration is a measurement process that assigns values to the property of an artifact, or response of an instrument, relative to reference standards or to a designated measurement process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of calibration is to eliminate or reduce bias in the user&#8217;s measurement system, relative to the reference base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"472\" src=\"https:\/\/www.westermans.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Calibrator-controls.jpg\" alt=\"Calibrator controls\" class=\"wp-image-8725\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.westermans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Calibrator-controls.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.westermans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Calibrator-controls-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.westermans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Calibrator-controls-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are working for a company with high levels of welding technology, it is essential that systems deliver consistent welding results without failing throughout their service life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is calibrating?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The process of calibrating welding systems involves them being connected up to a calibration station to have their voltage, amperage, and wire feed speed measured. <br>It is also an option to determine the gas flow rate of the welding current source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The calibration software analyses the values recorded for your welding systems, then compares them against the standard specifications in order to identify the discrepancy between the two. <br>This result must fall within the permissible tolerances as set out by the European (EN) 50504 standard.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eE5BobubMMw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a company does not take these required steps, they should not continue to use the welding machine for production. This is based on considerations surrounding quality assurance and product liability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investing in a welding calibration unit and\/or a load bank unit will save you more than money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits and Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a general rule, <a class=\"aioseop-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westermans.com\/migwelders.aspx\">MIG\/MAG<\/a>, manual metal arc welding, and <a class=\"aioseop-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westermans.com\/tigwelders.aspx\">TIG systems<\/a> can be calibrated. However, it\u2019s nothing compared to the long term price you will pay if you cannot prove that your production process is in line with the standards, in the event of damage occurring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accidents cause harm to people as well as steel constructions. <br>As you know, it is your company\u2019s responsibility toward your customers to guarantee product quality.
